Let God Have His Way

Let God Have His Way

by Joey Rozek   |

As we approach another year of our lives, let us give pause to remember why we even exist, what is the purpose of our lives, and who is ruling over us. May the following words inspire you to give God your very best in this New Year.

Why do you even exist at all?

Once we understand that we exist for God rather than God existing for us, we can do what we do to the glory of God. We may not be able to count how many days we have but we can make our days count while we have them. This requires us to learn God’s wisdom, which begins with a healthy fear of the LORD, and to commit ourselves to willful and thankful obedience. We must see that behind every rule is a Ruler, and no matter how many rules there are there is one rule that rules them all. This rule flows out of the love of God and is meant to bring us into right fellowship with Him and others. But love must be rightly rooted and built up in the unchanging reality that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8) and that “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19). Thus, God’s rule is seen in Christ’s love and His rule lasts forever.

What is the purpose of your life?

Whether we realize it or not, time is always moving. Life is always changing. Seasons are always passing. People are always choosing. And yet…purpose is rarely being discovered. If we do not take inventory of our lives, time will soon pass us by and our years will waste away into a life of meaningless existence and ongoing regret. Our life is a precious gift from God but our surrender is required for us to reach our full potential.  Until we release our grip, we will only dig our feet deeper into a false foundation, move in the wrong direction, and foolishly assume that our every desire somehow leads to our God given purpose. But it is only as we let go of the reigns of our lives that we even have the opportunity to do what God has prepared for us to do for the glory of His Name.

Who is ruling your life?

If it is you, you are only getting in the way. Selfishness and pride are the greatest enemies to God’s loving rule. There is only room for one to rule and Jesus is the constant that is consistent in every instant. So it is up to us to release our grip and place our lives completely in His hands. He is the standard that we can count on and the Ruler that we can measure everything that really matters by. Jesus is the One who rules over all and He alone makes the rules that we should all follow. His rule is revealed wherever His will is submitted to or His love is being shown or His ways are being followed. God’s rule of love is always consistent with the truth of His Word and always benefits everyone within its grasp under His governing authority.

So what is our role in light of His rule?

Our role is to simply let Him rule in all areas of our life at all times.

It is that simple.

Let God rule when you wake up, sit down, go out, eat, drink, sleep, talk, work or play.
Let God rule your will, your thoughts, your feelings, your ways, and your days. It is our great privilege that we get to contribute in God’s rule over our lives. Imagine that, His rule involves our will. This means that we must consistently place our lives in His loving hands, be it your past, your present, or your future. Since God exists outside of time, His rule is both outside and inside of time. Our time is precious because without it you cannot do anything else. What is done on earth will be revealed in heaven and will either be preserved or consumed in eternity. When our present time flows into eternity, our works, our motives, and our intentions will be fully revealed and we will discover how surrendered we actually were to His rule over our lives.

How can we let God rule in our lives?

Since our role is to let Him rule, we must continually come to Jesus. As we listen to His Word we can choose to obey what He is telling us to do. God has allowed each of us to play an active participatory role in the works that He does on earth. However, if we refuse to let Him rule and instead do what we want to do, we end up breaking the one rule that breaks all the other rules. Our pride and rebellion ends up being in direct opposition to His righteous rule and reign.

Therefore, consider this RULE acronym when thinking about how to let God rule over your life today…

R – Remember God’s past faithfulness

U – Understand what He has already revealed

L – Listen to what He is saying now

E – Endure this season and let God guide you as you obey

Remember God’s past faithfulness. Truly, He has done great things and He has proven that He will always be true to His side of the covenant. You must remember how God remembered you, took care of your cares, and answered you in the day of your trouble. This remembering soon turns into a greater longing for more of Him.

Psa. 143:5-6 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands. I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah

Understand what God has already revealed to you through your study in His Word and His steady hand in your life. Revisit and relearn the things that He has said and done and shown and taught you. Your understanding of His will and His ways will give you a stronger standing in your faith and greater clarity and confidence to move forward no matter the evil around you or the difficult circumstances you are in.

Eph. 5:15-17 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Listen to what God is saying right now. Don’t get too far ahead of Him because God wants you to rely fully on Him and His provision for your life. He wants you to move into the future by faith and not by sight. Therefore, you must not make your plans too prematurely or give any permanence to them. He will guide you with His eye as you seek His face. The Lord will lead you with His familiar voice as you read and obey His Word and listen to His gentle promptings by the leading of His Spirit.

James 4:13-15 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

Embrace and endure this season since the Lord orders every step of your life. He knows the way that you take and already sees how He is going to work this together for your good and His glory. He is allowing certain things on earth to show you certain realities in heaven. He is more interested in you as a person than your performance in a particular activity. He cares more for your character than your destination or occupation but is committed to getting you where He wants you to be in the end. Your present circumstances are actually the divinely orchestrated factors to get you to know Him more intimately and to become more like Him ultimately. Therefore, do not compare yourself to anyone else because your journey is your journey under God’s loving and perfectly orchestrated rule.

John 21:21-22 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?
You follow Me.”

Once again, our role is to simply let God rule. When God has His way, blessings always follow and more and more people will worship before Him.

So this year, let us LET GOD have HIS WAY.
“You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” – Psalm 65:11

“All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You. For the kingdom is the LORD’S, And He rules over the nations.”
– Psalm 22:27-28

“He must increase, but I must decrease. – John 3:30
